October 7th, 2008Green Mother Goods has just received a new shipment of toys from the Different Drummer workshop! These wooden toys are as good as they get (in my opinion, anyway). They are hand-crafted in Maine; right here in the United States. Each toy is made from pine. The edges are rounded and the toy is sanded ’til it’s satiny-smooth to the touch. The people at Different Drummer know what kids need: simple, basic toys that encourage the imagination.
Most of the Different Drummer toys come to us unfinished, the exception being the sailboat that your kids can take into the tub with them! And, speaking of the sailboat, it’s just lovely! The sailboat we have on our shelves is the boat with the brilliant, rainbow-colored sail. Two little wooden sailors are on board, willing to spend the evening floating lazily in the tub. Or perhaps, if your child is more like mine, the sailors will be on a mission to stop evil pirates from taking over the bubble islands!
The Choo-Choo Train is truly a classic. Six train cars link together with wooden pins. Of course the engine and caboose are included, but you’ll also see a log car and a passenger car with removable wooden men. The engine has a bright red rope attached so your little one can pull it along. The train, along with all the Different Drummer toys, is very well-made. So you’re not only buying a great toy for your child; you are also investing in a quality heirloom for your grandkids, great-grandkids, great-great-grandkids. . .
Different Drummer has also supplied us with beautiful furniture for dolls. Children take their doll play very seriously. It’s important to be supportive of that –they are already practicing their parenting skills! Such cherished friends deserve a well made cradle-bed or a special high chair.
Oh, and then there’s the Waddling Duck and the People Pull Toy and the Farm Tractor and the wooden Race Cars. . .even more to see from the Different Drummer workshop.
You can read more about these toys at the Different Drummer’s website: www.MaineToys.com or come by Green Mother Goods and have a look at the wonderful new play-things. Feel free to touch them, too! I know you’ll love the race cars, trucks and pull toys as much as we do!
Oh, so yummy! New baby clothes!

Have you seen the line of Speesees baby clothing? If not, you’ve gotta check it out. You won’t find boring baby pastels here. These colors are vibrant and full of personality! Colors like peacock, pumpkin (my personal favorite), pear, robin’s egg and tomato! This stuff is truly adorable! And if utter cuteness is not reason enough for you to purchase their products, how ’bout the fact that it’s entirely organic cotton! There are no chemical pesticides or fertilizers used in the production of this cotton. Speesees uses long-fiber cotton for the ultimate in softness (what else would you want next to your baby’s skin?). And they use low-impact dyes, nickle-free snaps and even the prints are PVC-free. Wonderfully perfect for your little eco-trendsetter!
Come on in to Green Mother Goods and check out our newest shipment of Speesees organic cotton clothing! Due to limited supply it is not currently available on our website. But if you’ve just gotta have it (and you know you do), give us a call. We’ll do everything we can to get some of this cuteness to you!
Hello world!
June 2nd, 2008Hi!
Well, here we are in the world of blogs!!
Green Mother Goods is attempting to build a website. It sounds like a great idea and it seemed easy enough, but here we are 7 months into operating our business and we cannot seem to get this website thing right. First, we had hosting issues, then we discovered there’s a bit of a learning curve when it comes to actually publishing something onto the internet. Of course designing the website is not as simple as it should be. And all the “easy to use” software, well, that’s just a flat-out LIE! Then, over the weekend our blog simply disappeared. I hadn’t even made it available for the public to view yet. After much panic and frustration, on Monday morning the blog decided to reappear! I’m convinced it’s magic and there’s some evil wizard playing a joke on us! Now, here I am, typing to a blog that, depending on the mood of some organic-cotton-hating magician, may never be seen. Well, wish us luck!
